Several factors can affect VPN speed:
- Server distance: Connect to a server closer to your physical location for better speeds
- Your internet connection: A VPN can't increase your base internet speed
- Protocol: Try switching between OpenVPN (UDP/TCP) and WireGuard in settings
- Local network: Restart your router and device
For optimal performance, we recommend using WireGuard protocol and connecting to servers with low load (shown in our client app).
Router setup protects all devices on your network automatically. Here's how:
- Log into your router's admin panel (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1)
- Navigate to VPN settings
- Download OpenVPN configuration files from your AhoyVPN dashboard
- Upload the .ovpn file and enter your AhoyVPN credentials
- Save and connect
We provide detailed setup guides for popular router brands (ASUS, Netgear, TP‑Link, OpenWRT) in your dashboard. Router support is currently manual configuration only; native router client coming Q4 2026.

- Iran

AhoyVPN uses two distinct email domains for different types of communication:
- Customer‑service emails (support, general inquiries, affiliate questions) come from
ahoyvpn@ahoyvpn.com. - Transactional emails (password resets, billing notifications, account updates) are sent from
@ahoyvpn.netaddresses.
This separation helps ensure important account‑related messages are delivered reliably and reduces the chance of transactional emails being marked as spam.
If you ever receive an email claiming to be from AhoyVPN that seems suspicious, forward it to ahoyvpn@ahoyvpn.com for verification.
